Willing to be a Living Kidney Donor O positive Blood Type?

Willing to be a Living Kidney Donor O positive Blood Type?I have never smoked and don't drink alcohol. I am willing to help someone who is in need of a transplant. The only thing I would ask in return is to be compensated for my lost wages from work. This is legal for lost wages only and anyone questioning the legalities can check with the National Kidney Foundation. I registered with my local hospital and they are slow to begin prescreening. They gave me a exam date in Febuary. Does anyone know where I can have this procedure and test performed soon for a deserving person.
My work load increases 2 fold in March and I need time to recover after the procedure.
Thank you and only serious answers.
Because of some of the answers I have received I felt the need to explain what the law is. Under the 1984 NOTA law from Congress. Anyone who is a living donor may receive pay for lost wages not to exceed there normal gross wages. National Kidney Info Line is 888-894-6361. So before making ignorant remarks about it being illegal its not. I am trying to help but not go into debt from lost wages.

Awwww how nice. I don't need a kidney, but will probably need a piece of your liver after New Year's Eve.

What you are proposing is illegal, not to mention unethical. People (or people's families) do not donate organs for financial gain.

Even though you are saying you want to "help someone in need", asking for compensation for "lost wages and recovery time" is selling...plain and simple.

It's called DONATION for a reason. Selling organs is against the law. Period.

EMT

It still looks like you are doing this for financial gain. If you can't afford to take some time off work, then donate something that takes little of your time...like blood or bone marrow. By the way, who is supposed to compensate you?

FYI dumba** this type of stuff is illegal. You can't just bring your broke a** on the computer trying to sell yo organs to stay out the welfare line. I gonna need you to get a job. HAHAHAH!

You can contact the "gift of life" in your local area. Gift of Life has different names in different states you can check with your DMV or the Division of Transplantation (A Federal Office) for the exact name. There is also the Minority Organ Tissue Donation Program they have a list of people waiting for organs and may be able to match you. I work for the National Kidney Foundation in Michigan and NKF does not typically match donors most of our work is in prevention and helping people to prevent their kidneys from failing. Its a generous offer that you make to help save someones life.

The poster is actually correct.

In May 2005, UNOS (which is the organ sharing network) did have clarified that under the 1984 NOTA law, that payment of "the expenses of travel, housing and lost wages incurred by the donor of a human organ in connection with the donation of the organ" is permitted.

What is illegal is the selling of an organ.

I think it is admirable that you are willing to donate a kidney - so few people do for strangers. Instead of the National Kidney Foundation, I would contact UNOS (www.unos.org), they are the organization that keeps the transplant lists and they can direct you to resources within your community. You other option is to contact the organ procurement group in your region -- call a local hospital and ask them for the contact info (when a patient dies in the hospital, the group has to be notified so the hospital will have the info).

talk to them about becoming a living donor -- I think they will jump on it. There are so many people on the waiting list in desparate need.

Good luck to you.
