Your high cholesterol, unfortunately, is part and parcel of the nephrotic syndrome because your liver is working overtime to produce more protein (which you ar constantly losing into your urine). I think that even if you ate right, it would still be high.

What sucks is, in the long run, you are at risk of developing the problems that can come with high cholesterol. I'd advise you to speak to your doctor to see whether you need a cholesterol-lowering medication (something like zocor or lipitor).

More important than your cholesterol, though, are your kidneys and treating them, and I hope that your doctor has prescribed you an ACE inhibitor (something like enalapril or lisinopril) to help with this.

Good luck!

your high cholesterol is a response to your disease. Cholesterol plays a part in the (attempted) repair process, is an antioxident and the the precursor for our hormones, including those that are released in response to stress. Your body is currently under a lot of stress.
concentrate on your kidney disease. Avoid all processed foods and eat a nutrient rich diet inc such things as home made broths.
dont worry about your cholesterol levels as you do not need any more stress in your life at the moment.
I'd be more worried if your cholesterol levels dropped too low, as this often proceeds death for those suffering serious diseases

Sounds to me like your filtration system is working overtime and the cholesterol is a by product. Pay attention to the comment from Wise Owl - that tip about cholesterol dropping preceding death got my attention. Some things that will help your liver and kidneys detoxify are tissue salts. Not everyone agrees with taking them but they work for me and you can get them at your local drug store off the shelf.

Tissue Salt No.3 - Calcium Sulfate. This salt is a blood purifier and helps break down toxins.

It's found in onions, garlic and leeks. Also in radishes, cauliflower, watercress and asparagus as well as figs and prunes. Celery, parsley and fennel are also good and you can make tea with them or put them in your salads.

Or you can get a bottle of tablets from the druggist.
