Should I euthanize my cat?My 15 yr old cat couple weeks ago started throwing up partly processed blood. She was very dehydrated and skinny. She was also chroniclly constipated. Vet gave her liquids and ran all kinds of tests on her (thyroid, kidney, liver, ulcer). Sent me home with a couple of meds. Doctor called later and said everything came back fine cept shes alittle anemic & she should be wormed. She called back awhile later & said she looked closer & theres signs of mild kidney disease, it can be controlled with diet change. Changed her food to hills pres. for kidney & she doesnt eat it, so ive been giving her her reg.food. Lately shes stopped eating and shes been drooling the past few days badly & looks a lil blood tinged like first time. She really weak & sways when walks. Ive forced some water and food supp. down. Shes seems like harder to see/hear. She just sits & yestr. stayed outside by shed, i brouhght her in my closet. I dont have more money to treat her, could she be in major kid. failure??

Clearly she is suffering. You should ask your vet about another diet that is healthy for her. I am no fan of Hills but some of their prescription formulas do help. If you think that won't help, then you should consider euthanasia. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is freedom from suffering. However, talk to your vet again and see what he/she thinks before making a final decision.

Getting her put to sleep sounds like a good idea.We had a 16 year old cat who had a tumor the used and it was cancer so we put her to sleep. The only problem with putting her to sleep is that at a vet it costs some money.

The poor thing. I don't know on one hand, I am one of those people who think you should just let nature take its course (in most cases) But I can imagine how hard it is to see her suffer. Just do what you think is right.

I so feel for you. My husband is a vet and boy this is a hard decision. What did your vet say? Being the kitty is 15 years old and seems to be uncomfortable, I would consider having her euthanized. Its such a hard decision and one I have had to make a few times but if she's in pain, you need to do what's in the best interest for the kitty. She could be in kidney failure but without bloodwork, you just don't know.
Give you vet a call today and speak with him/her and ask what their suggestion is.
*I also wanted to add, please let us know what happened and what the vet said. I am praying for you and your little kitty*.

Kidney failure is a slow, painful death. It's a pretty slow-progressing disease, so if she was recently diagnosed with the very mild beginnings, then this is not what is causing problems right now.
It's entirely possible that she's just hit old age, and her body is shutting down. My very first cat was 23 years old when he showed very similar signs. He was so thin, and sick, and he couldn't even make it the 10-feet (or-so) from his bed near the heater, to the litter box in the bathroom.
When considering euthenization, it's best to make a list. Think of three things your cat normally enjoys. Anything from chasing a string, to sharing your pillow at night. When she stops doing those three things, you know that her quality of life is deteriorating. That's when you should strongly consider euthenization.
