I don't know too much, but benefits would be healthy and functional kidney. If you are on dialysis or something, that could be ended.
Drawbacks: kidney could reject, there could be no difference.
Talk to a doctor. That would be key to finding out.

The drawback would be, it's major abdominal surgery with all the risks of major abdominal surgery and anesthesia (infection, bleeding, possibly death). Secondly, the recipient will be maintained on immuno-suppresants FOREVER, so that the transplanted kidney will not be rejected (attacked by the host immune system), but this unfortunately will also make the patient prone to infections in general.
Major benefit would be NOT having to go through dialysis on a regular basis. Which makes life a little more normal. Kidney transplantation provides a "QUANTUM LEAP" in terms of quality of life for patients with end stage renal failure.

Benefits are:
Not being on dialysis (hooked up to a machine)
Living longer than a person would on dialysis
More energy
Less restrictive diet
Drawbacks are:
The risks and complications that can arise from major surgery
Transplant rejection (hyperacute, acute or chronic)
Infections due to the immunosuppressant drugs that are required to decrease risk of rejection
Imbalances in electrolytes including Calcium and Phosphate which can lead to bone problems amongst other things
