How much will CRF shorten my cats life span?

How much will CRF shorten my cats life span?My cat is about 3 years old, and is a very healthy cat. I just found out that he has CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) which is better known as kidney failure. He is a young healthy cat and I just want to know how much this will shorten his life. The vet said we caught this fairly early (The end of the beginning stages). (we are starting all the treatments, and such that the vet told us to start).

Unfortunately, that's a hard thing to answer, since CRF can affect each cat differently; sometimes it progresses quickly, sometimes it can be prolonged for months to years after diagnosis, with the cat living a comfortable life provided proper care is given.

Here's a link with a wealth of information on feline CRF. I wish you all the best with your little guy.

Each cat is an individual and there is no set life-span for a cat with CRF. It depends upon how well a cat responds to treatment and treatment varies with each cat. Obviously the earlier it is detected the easier it is to help the cat maintain a good quality of life. It has been know for cats who develop CRF to live for up to 3 years or more after diagnosis.
