Has anyone adopted a special needs pet?

Has anyone adopted a special needs pet?I would love to hear anyone's stories about their pet. They are the most special, appreciative, grateful pets to ever get. I had a special needs dog for 23 months. He was about 7 years old and had heartworm, a tumor, and lyme disease. As the months went by, we cured the heartworm, but never knew what damaging effects it would have. He developed heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, and pulmonary hypertension. He was saved by his doctors and lived 50 more days after he collapsed and was in heart failure. It is the saddest thing to witness your loved one dealing with such obstacles, but my dog was the best thing that ever happened to me. Without a doubt, I would adopt another special needs pet. I am not saying they are the most deserving of a home, but they are looked down upon because no one wants to deal with the medical stress and emotional stress. I am willing to deal with all of that again to save an animals life. My dog would've died in the shelter if we didn't adopt him. The shelter was extremely grateful for us adopting him and after all the thousands of pets that go through their shelter, they remembered my dog and knew how special he was. When he was in the hospital of heart failure, all of the staff at the shelter came up to us and told us how special he was and how he touched their hearts.

Does anyone else have an "special" stories about their pet? I would love to hear any stories.

Hes not so special needs but Loki cannot fully see in his left eye...if at all. On top of that, he had an infection from his neuter.

Before him, I adopted an abused dog named freeway. He had mange so bad that he was completely bald. I considered a blind dog but I was not approved for her =\

I have had 9 cats in my life. This is a sad story but one close to my heart. One of my many foster cats, Chanel, hadn't been looking so good. After weeks, we were sure she was sick with something, but we didn't know what it was. So we took her to the veterinarian down the street and he checked her. It turns out she had been abused, shot. When I heard the news I cried for a long time. We ended up having to put the cat to sleep. I miss my little Chanel!
