Dog DESPERATELY needs to gain weight. Help please?I have a 14 year old mostly-whippet mix, who's suffering from congenital heart disease and kidney disease. The vet has limited the amount of meat we can give her, and she can't have a lot of salt either. Rather than eating 2-3 large meals a day, she needs to eat a lot of small meals. Her stomach's been really testy recently, as well, and she's thrown up a couple of times.
I understand that she may not be with us much longer, but I don't want her to suffer during the time she has left. Not like this. Her bones are protruding every which-a-way, and she's malnourished, despite our best efforts to keep her fed and healthy.
I need help coming up foods that will help her gain weight. Seeing her like this really kills me, I hate it. I want her to be as healthy as she can be.
I know she likes omelettes, which is a start since eggs are really high in protein. I don't want to turn to a store-bought food brand, either. A lot of the ones that are sold have those lame by-product ingredients. We want to know exactly what we're feeding her.
We've asked the vet multiple times, and he hasn't been much help, by the way. =/
Thank you in advance for your help!
Did you guys not read the question? We HAVE asked the vet but he's NOT really being any help. He just repeats the same, "less meat, minimal sodium" mantra over and over.
Also, I suggested putting her down to keep her from suffering anymore, but my dad's being stubborn and not having it. He doesn't want to lose her. =/

You need to discuss this with your vet, not people on the internet.

It takes a long time to put weight on a dog, and you don't even know if it will work. If it were my dog, I would do the kind thing for it and put it to sleep. Your dog is suffering more than you know.

Ask the vet about boost or ensure. It was designed for cancer patients suffering from the affects of Chemo therapy. I know many breeders who use this as a means of surviving very picky underweight puppies. It contains lots of minerals and vitamins and should be easy on the tummy. My friend has survived many preemie puppies with this. Another thing is NutriCal. A high calorie supplement in a tube. Hope this helps.

If the dog is suffering, you may want to re-think this whole thing. (I think you know what I mean)
Add: Well, maybe I shouldn't say this but your Dad is more than stubborn. He's selfish and he IS going to loose her. Ending her suffering is the reasonable thing to do, not sitting back and watching her suffer. He needs to make a sane and adult decision. You can tell him I said so, and I'm probably WAY older than your Dad.
