What is the benefit of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis?

Both types take the place (only partially though) of normal kidney function in the event of kidney failure. Hemodialysis is usually 3 times a week, from 3-4 hours per treatment, requires 2 needles each time and it's usually done in an outpatient center. Peritoneal dialysis is usually done every day, either during the night when sleeping or throughout the course of an entire day, can be done at home, can maintain the blood chemistries to nearly normal, and allows for a more liberal diet and fluid intake.
