What is the life expectancy of a young adult in renal failure?

What is the life expectancy of a young adult in renal failure? The young lady got diagnosed with renal failure when she was 17 and now is 25. They just had to put a balloon in heart artery to keep it from closing and she is refusing to eat because food 'tastes weird'. This is my best friend and I just want to brace myself. She has not had a transplant.

Do you know her creatinin level? Is it both kidneys? My aunt recently passed away from renal failure. She had a creatinin level of 10 for about 4-5 years and lived a little more than a week once it reached 12. If your friend is in serious renal failure, she should be having seizures. Your kidneys filter your blood, so if they don't work, all the toxins that are supposed to be secreted from your body keep circulating. The electrolytes get out of balance, causing seizures. Your nervous system is affected first, and then the rest of your body. If there are no other options for her, and any consolation it may be, death by renal faillure is very peaceful. She will be in no pain, or at least her brain won't sense it, and will most likely slip into a coma and die a few days later. However, if her creatinin level is not that high, then she probably has several more years left.
Is she a candidate for dialysis? I also have an uncle who had both of his kidneys removed because of cancer and undergoes dialysis treatments a few days a week. He leads a normal life. So, maybe that's an option for her.
Wish I had better news for you.
