Hereditary renal disease? How to test for it?I have a very strong feeling that I might have something wrong with my kidneys. My mother was diagnosed with chronic renal disease and she always told me to get tested in my early 20's. Well I'm 23 now and showing some signs that she did. Where do I go to get tested, and what is involved?

Simple blood work should get the case started. Call your doctor and tell them your concerns. Good luck!

Your question is very general - no way of knowing what type of testing maybe indicated.
1st: start with your primary physician - explain your concerns; you both can discuss/develop the plan of actions.
2nd: depending on your case you may need to consult with nephrologist or other specialist.. etc.

You should first go to a Urologist which specializes in renal cases and tell the doctor about your concern. Basically most renal disease are only secondary, which is basically a result of another pathology like diabetes or congestive heart failure to name a few. I don't really know exactly how they test but to give you an overview, they basically give you oral fluid to drink and after some time, you'll be ask to urinate a number of times and they will measure your urine. That is one test, there are many more. You should consult your doctor for in depth answer.
