What is the life expectancy for someone on dialysis?I have a close friend who is 31 and on dialysis. He is diabetic. His health is deteriorating and I am wondering how much time he has left. I want to make the best of what time he has left. He has been on dialysis since April of this year.

My sister in law has been on kidney dialysis for 13 years.It really depends on if he is taking care of himself like he should.My sister in law has lots of other problems with her health also,she has lived a lot longer that we all expected.So there is really no easy answer for your question.I guess it depends on the person.My sister i law is getting a her brothers kidney in January.

This is not a simple or easy question to answer. My mom died after 2 yrs on dialysis, she was also diabetic but had other health issues. My uncle, however, lived on dialysis for 28 years, but he was in better health. It is going to depend on how well he follows his doctor diet instructions and keeping a positive attitude.
