Kidney disease in cats-does it run in the family?


Kidney disease in cats-does it run in the family?I just found out my cat's brother is very sick and might have kidney disease(waiting in the tests). Does it run in the family..I am very worried.

My aunt Dorothy had kidney disease but my cat never showed any symptoms.

If it is polycystic kidney disease then I do believe that it does. I hope that your kitty is ok.

I don't think that you really have to worry about kidney diseases running in cat families, it's not like human families. A lot of times cats will get kidney diseases because they were not neutered, or were not neutered quick enough. It also depends on if your cat is a pedigree animal, and if it comes from one of the "farms" where the animals are so inbred that the animals are all born with too many diseases to count.
