kidney failure by too much protein?

kidney failure by too much protein?I heard that eating a diet high in protein can lead to kidney disease, and kidney failure. Is this true?
okay so I did more research, I'm on the Atkins diet by the way, but on Atkins, I consume about 300g of protein daily, as opposed to the required 68g for someone of my build.

So in this article, it says short term high protein diets are safe. So I guess I'm safe because, I just wana get to my target weight, and then I'm just gonna go back to a healthy, well-balanced diet.

This is a guess as I'm no doctor but that sounds silly to me.

( Although if you ate nothing BUT and left out all the other stuff your body needs like veggies it's easy to believe that WOULD make you sick and maybe affect the kidneys among other things.)

The general opinion is it is expected to damage kidneys, but they can't say definitely yes. People with mild kidney damage, however, are definitely adversely affected by high-protein diets. To be on the safe side, have a doctor check your kidneys before you start on this sort of diet, as some mild kidney diseases can be easily overlooked.
