If the disease only affects one kidney (which I don't know of any that harms just one) then no, the other kidney won't fail. However, if you have a disease such as polycystic kidney disease, both will be affected by it and both will eventually fail.

Hello! Not necessarily. It all depends on the disease process that led to the kidney failure in the first place. If was due to an infectious process, such as strep that was untreated, the chances are slim. If the kidney failure was due to a chronic medical condition, there is the possibility. My advice to you is to make an appointment to see your doctor, just to address your concerns. You will feel much better knowing what you're facing. More than likely he/she will put your mind at ease and closely monitor your kidney function. I hope that this has helped you in some small way and best of luck to you.

No, not necessarily. It depends a lot on what the other kidney failed of. Cystic kidneys could get cysts in the other kidney. Diabetic kidneys could have circulation problems in the other kidney. On the other hand, a stone in one kidney doesn't necessarily mean a stone in the other kidney, but it could be vaguely possible.
