how to hold a successful fundraiser for a child with rare kidney disease?I have a family friend who has a 12 year old son with a rare kidney disorder called Nephrotic Syndrome. He has been battling this for about two years now and his parents are almost to the point where they have no choice to ask for help. His mother takes him to they hospital 4 times/week for dialysis. Last month he had an emergency surgery to have both kidneys removed so he is now living off dialysis. Within the last few weeks his weight has dropped dramatically to less than 60 lbs.
We had the idea to have a beef n beer at perhaps a local firehouse's social hall. Also we have thought about door prizes. Today I came up with the idea to contact the phillies and see if possibly one of the players could come out and sign autographs.
Okay now.. someone PLEASE help! This boy is the sweetest, funniest kid you will ever meet and he and his family deserve this more than anything.
so, can anyone give advice about..
1) how much should tickets be?
2) any more detailed ideas for door prizes?
3) any knowledge as to if it would cost for a professional athlete to attend and if that is even possible?
4) and anymore ideas that would help this family pay for treatment, travel, etc!!!
We are open to ANY ideas!!!
thanks :)

Wow I hope the child gets better. I am not religious but I am part of a meditation group and I will put a word out for him. Although as far as getting a sports player to come, I am not for sure if they would be willing to do something like that but believe it or not there are still good people out there. This is going to take alot of work but it will be well worth it. First I would print out some flyers and take them to every college bulletin bboard in your area and further. Second I would see if you could contact the student government Association in each college around, even community colleges. I have worked with colleges doing things like this and the results weere phenomenal. Like I said ths will be a lot of work and take lots of phone tag and communication with other people, but definately necessary. These parents must get help. I tell you what this is where the health care bill would be needed. You could also set up a free website through somewhere like microsoft officelive and register with paypal which is free as well. Then you post a paypal link to the site and people will donate, especially if you post the website all over yahoo and other forums and groups. As far as the raffle I would say keep the prizes decent but simple. Also you want to make a sort of plate sale and bake sale, it can be affective. You need to sell tickets for this event so that you can keep track of how many people are going to attend. You could sell raffle tickets for prizes before the Fund Raiser or you can see if people will buy them at the fund raiser. The food you prepare should bring a significant profit. I knew someone who did meatball subs, potato salad, and beans. The ingrediants cost 100 bucks and they raked in 400 dollars, but there were only like 60 people. The plates were like 8 bucks a peace. So if you charged like ten bucks a plate and whatever for raffles you should se some results.
Get Busy and GOOD LUCK
BLESS .
