Do any of these Conditions Quality My Infant for SSI Disability (low income family)? My 4 month old son has required hospitalization 30 days out of his 120 day life span. He has had 1 flight for life trip, 3 PICU admissions, 3 surgical procedures and has the following diagnosis'. Hypertension, Left Ventricular Hypertrophy, suspected Kidney Disease, Restrictive Airway Disease, Severe Laryngomalacia, Severe Gerd (even after Nissen Fundoplication and placement of Gastric Button, Dysphagia (aspiration, Laryngeal Penetration, and Nasopharyngeal Backflow), Laryngeal Spasms, Chronic Rhinitis, Hx of Aspiration Pneumonia ------I had to quit my job to provide care for my son when the nursing staff is not their (40 hr work week for nurse). My husband and I are seperated and he pays the insurance and child support, but it's not enough. I qualified for Medicaid based on income and medical needs of my child. What is my son's likelihood of qualifying for SSI disability based on the fact that the airway issues are not expected to resolve for 18-36 months?
Oh yeah, forgot the delayed gastric emptying......he is on 2 medications for breathing (every 3-4 hours), oxygen as needed, prevacid 2x daily, bethanacol 4x daily, norvasc 2x daily, ipratroprium breathing tx for drooling!, he requires 3x daily g-button changes. To date, no one is willing to care for my child expect qualified licensed nurses. People are scared because last week he had a vagal episode after refluxing and his heart-rate fell to 33 and his o2 sat stayed at 84-87 for 2 hours (even on 10 liters o2!). He was nearly dead and it's a good thing the nurse was there!
He will grow out of a lot of this eventually, but in the meantime?

I'm so sorry for all that you've gone through with your son. The chances of you getting SSI are very good. The process, regardless of how obvious your case seems, often takes quite a while. After filing, you'll be sent to a doctor who works for the government in determining your child's disability. After their report comes in, then it's just a matter of a few weeks until you begin getting monthly payments. Call on Monday morning and get things started..the toll free number is
1-800-772-1213 or you can begin your application online by visiting https://secure.ssa.gov/apps6z/ISBA/main.html. Even if you're denied, you can always file again, and hire an SSI attorney who will fight for you.
Good luck, and my prayers are with you.
