Can you take sulfamethoxazole-TMP susp hit when you have acute Hydronephrosis? My son who is 5 years old had a perforated ear about one month ago. We went back to the doctor and he said his ear has not fully drained so he prescribed this sulfamethoxazole. My son has had ear problems in the past. When he was about 2 he got tubes put in his ears (after about 18 ear infections). A little over a year ago the tubes came out. He hasn't had any problems (with his ears) up till a month ago. Now back in January I noticed him wetting the bed witch was not normal for him and we went to the doctor and he had blood in his urine. We took him to a urologist and he was diagnosed with Hydronephrosis (Kidney's are a bit bigger than normal). She said it is not a big deal though. We don't have to go back to see her again, unless something major happens. So to get to my question, should he take this medicine? I read you should not take it with a kidney disease. But I don't know if you would call Hydronephrosis a kidney disease. Thanks in advance for your help!

It should be ok. Although I would find another urologist ASAP! Hydronephrosis is a MAJOR issue that needs to be looked into. I have had it twice in my life and both times have had to have surgery. There is a cause for it that needs to be found.
