Am I Allergic to Deodorant? Or is it something more?This summer, I got a really bad heat rash. I didn't use deodorant because I heard it only makes the rash worse. Then, I just stopped using it all together, and my heat rash eventually went away. So, by September, school was starting, and I started using deo. but it gave me a rash filled with big, red, inflamed zit-looking bumps. So I stopped using it for awhile, and the rash went away. Same thing a few weeks ago, I started using deo. and now I still have a big red rash on both my armpits. It's making shaving very painful, and raising my hand in class embarrassing because of sweat & the zits. Also, I read on the back of the deodorant [ DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE A KIDNEY DISEASE] Could my rashes really be linked to a kidney disease or something? Or could I just be allergic? Let me know what you think. :)

It sounds like you could be allergic to it. You should probably contact your doctor or switch deodorant and see if it comes back.

check to see if u are using antiperspirant or deodorant. anti perspirant is much more caustic and u could be sensitive to something in it. my bf cant use it but can use deodorant.

it does sound like you could be allergic to your deodorant. I used to get the same thing and I switched my brand to Mitchum the clear kind. I dont used the solids anymore and I havent had a problem since. If you are shaving and then use deordorant right afterwards dont. Thats what happened to me. I would get a rash and bumps. I recommend you shave and wait at least a half hour before putting deodorant on. Shave at night when you dont have to go anywhere and let your armpits dry. I know that sounds silly but it works. and try using the clear Mitchum. There is another brand that is hypoallergenic. I think that is called allmay. Or at least it starts with an A. Either one will be ok. Hope I have helped you.

I don't think you have a kidney disease. Relax. I have had the same problem, and it is most likely a reaction to the chemicals in the deodorant. They contain metals. If you have ever had a skin reaction with cheap jewelry, it's the same thing I think. I used to have the same reaction to cheap jewelry(it contains nickel, usually), so I'm assuming it's the same. Deodorant contains aluminum salts. Try one of those organic deodorants, or at least something that has no metals or says "hypo-allergenic" on the label. I'm too cheap to see a dermatologist, but if you can afford it, DO IT RIGHT NOW. Then tell me what they say. By the way I'm 30 yrs old and was using this stuff for 17 years before having a problem. So don't feel weird...
