Why check kidneys for high blood pressure?I went in for my high blood pressure today. I had an EKG (which turned out fine), and the doc ordered an ultrasound of my kidneys and some artery along with a chest x-ray for tomorrow. He was in a hurry and I didn't get a chance to ask him why. Wyy check these three things? Thank you

Because high blood pressure affects the way your kidneys function. If your blood pressure is really high...it makes it harder for your kidneys to work and eventually, if left untreated...can permanently damage your kidneys and therefore creating a need for dialysis or a transplant. Watch your blood pressure closely and get proper treatment. Good luck !

BLOOD PRESSURE CAN DAMAGE YOUR KIDNEYS

Your kidneys are part of the blood pressure regulatory system. Your kidneys may actually be the cause of your hypertension.
The renal artery is what the Dr. is interested in.

Sounds like the doctor wants to check for blockage in the renal arteries which supply blood to kidneys, blockage can cause damage to kidneys and kidney function affects BP.The chest x-ray will allow him to assesss the condition of your lungs and heart. If you don't feel comfortable call your doctor and ask him why he feels the tests are necessary and he will tell you.
