Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Polycystic Kidney Disease? How likely is it to have both.... I know I am positive for the PCOS....but they are reading my ultrasounds for the Kidney Disease.... On Wikipedia it says this can be fatal...and many other terrible things... How many of these are true? What are some things I can do? I just really hope I don't have the Kidney Disease.. I'm an only child...and my mom is worried and I already have enough on my hands. I'm only 17 and I'm really scared..
Thanks..

There are actually a few different forms of Polycystic Kidney Disease (autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, etc).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycystic_kidney_disease#Genetics
The autosomal dominant form (ADPKD) is the most common, affecting about one person in a thousand (1 in 1000, or 0.1% of the population). People with this kind of kidney disease tend to have cysts in the liver and pancreas as well, but ovarian cysts are quite different from kidney/liver/pancreas cysts. In other words, it is possible, but not likely, to have both PCOS and ADPKD.
People with ADPKD often end up with end-stage kidney disease, and require dialysis. However, people can live for decades on dialysis, so having ADPKD is not automatically fatal. Not to mention, about a third of patients with ADPKD don't end up needing dialysis.
Wikipedia is a very helpful resource, but depending the contributors writing them, some topics are better written than others. If you are really worried about polycystic kidney disease, I would suggest you visit the Polycystic Disease Foundation website. For example, the Q&A on ADPKD may address many of your questions:

All the best.
