Can Lamotrigine, (also known as Lamictol) cause renal failure or chronic kidney disease over time?

Not that I know of. Currently I'm taking Lamictal and don't have to take blood tests as I had to with other drugs that control seizures. Calling a pharmacist and asking them would probably be your best bet.

I'm a student pharmacist and according to the most recent Drug Information Handbook, Lamotrigine can possibly cause acute renal failure in less than one percent of people taking the drug. And the drug summary information from micromedex mentions the possible renal impairment.
