In general, can PID and severe, chronic anemia be related?

In general, can PID and severe, chronic anemia be related? This is ONLY speculation, constructive opinions allowed. Many years ago a gyn said that, apparently at some time I'd had PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), and it left my female organs a tangled mess. He suggested a hysterectomy, but only for the terrible pain I had during my period. (I didn't have it, because I felt that pain wasn't a good enough excuse to go under the knife.) About four years later, I stopped having a period for like two years. Although doctors insisted it wasn't related, it was jump-started after a series of strong antibiotics for a kidney infection. I stopped again, and then a few months later it again was jump-started by another series of antibiotics. This time it "took."
Today I had a regular physical exam, and the doctor said that he found that I obviously have severe, chronic anemia that needs to be explored further by an internist. When I got home, I started thinking about the PID. Do you think they could be related? My periods are severe and painful, so I'm wondering if it could make my blood go so low. I haven't had a period in a couple weeks, and my hemoglobin was only 8. He said that's REALLY bad. (If you know, I'd love to know if you agree.)

I do think it could be related and sometimes doctors are not sure and the patients have to tell them for them to know or investigate the things that are going on with us.
