about PKD (polysystic kidney disease)?

about PKD (polysystic kidney disease)?are the chances of inheriting this disease from a male much less than from a female???? my husband has and all his brothers inherited it from his mother, and i was just wondering about our kids.

The info research method I used doesn't mention anything regarding preference to a certain sex. The only info I got was about the disease and other things like being genetic that you would already know. They do list the PKD foundation as the organization that has further info too Remember, if you go to this website to go to the Polysystic Kidney disease foundation .org and not dot com. Good luck and God Bless

No preference...if both parents have the gene (may not have it but have the gene to pass on) it is more likely that a child will inherit the disease. Genetic testing can determine it. Ask your doctor if you are considering having children.

ADPKD there is a 50% chance that your children will inherit it but does not generally affect them until they are older. ARPKD there is a 25% that your children will inherit it but that is generally know in infancy (if not sooner via sonogram), both parents carry the ARPKD gene and more often then not there is no family history of having kidney problems.

EDIT*sex of the parent or child doesn't matter. 50% chance per child for ADPKD and 25% chance per child for ARPKD.

It is autosomal dominant (on a non-sex gene no. 4) and is always a disease where it is present.

So, yes either boys or girls can get it if your husband has the gene...he can pass it on to them 50% chance.

If your husband has PKD then the chances of your kids having it are 50/50 for each child. If one has it, that doesn't mean they all will. No difference whether they are male or female.

It also doesn't "skip" a generation, so if your children don't have it, their children won't have it.

Don't be confused by ARPKD or ADPKD - not the same thing as PKD

I have two sisters and a brother - we all have it. We got it from our Mother.

My mother has a brother and a sister but neither of them have it.
