Will my Grandma die soon from this?

can you die from kidney disease

Will my Grandma die soon from this?I need serious answers, this means no personal opinions. My grandma is 69 years old. About 3 years ago my Grandma was diagnosed with diabetes. But around 5 months ago she started getting pretty sick; very tired and weak. She was convinced it was hidden mold in our house that was causing her to be sick. We moved and she didn't improve. My grandma is very stubborn, and we finally convinced her to go to the doctor like about a month ago. They said she no longer has diabetes because of her weight loss. Also, they said she has congestive heart failure, fluid around her heart, and her kidneys are failing. It's not that her heart is working too hard, it's that it's not working hard enough. She has high blood pressure too, in the range for causing a stroke. This type of heart disease is in our family. She's in the hospital right now undergoing more tests... do you think she can pull through if she sticks to medications the doctors give her? Or is it too late to really make a comeback from this? Please be honest.

at this point, it's not the diabetes that is the concern. she could potentially die because heart failure and kidney failure are both very serious problems. whether or not she survives will depend on a number of things:

1. hate to say it, but luck
2. the medications and procedures she's managed with in hospital
3. how well she adheres to meds and lifestyle recommendations if she makes it out of hospital
4. how healthy she was before she went into the hospital (i.e. how good her underlying kidney and heart function were)
5. how bad the heart and kidney failure are now and what they think the cause of the failure is (i.e. was it due to a heart attack that has caused significant damage to the heart muscle, etc...)

health is complex. and unfortunately senior citizens walk a very fine line when it comes to their ability to cope with medical adversity. all your family can really do now is support her, and form a tight supportive network around her. AND stay informed about what's going on. you can always ask more questions to fill in the big picture.
