Pain can be a big problem for those with kidney stones and trying to pass them (found this out from my aunt when I asked her about it and she told me my uncle had them). Blood in the urine is also a symptom that can occur with kidney stones.
To minimize pain the doctors can give medication to help control the pain til it passes depending on the size of the stone.
I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor as well to see what they say.

The primary syptom of a kidney stone is pain in the lower back. It can be very painful, even dibilitating. If you think you have one, go to a doctor (if you haven't already). You will need an x-ray to determine the size of the stone. If its too big to pass and you don't get it treated, it can cause infection and damage to your kidney. To treat it they will basically blast it with ultrasound to shatter it so it can pass (dont worry, its painless). If its small enough to pass all you can do is ask for strong pain meds and drink lots of water while you wait for it to pass. You can start with something like Tylenol 3, you'll probably get Vicodin next. When that didn't work for me anymore they gave me Demerol. That helped dull it.
