Will the careers I want to pursue be limited because of my disease?I am very active, play a lot of sports and my disease has been under control for 2 years. I have kidney disease, IgA nephropathy and take medications every day for them. For the careers I would like to pursue, my main one would be a Search and Rescue Technician for the Canadian Forces. My second career would be a firefighter. Will my careers be limited due to my disease, even if I would be able to complete all the training and physical tests?

It's flat out illegal to discriminate against anyone due to a medical issue. With any job you will be given some sort of requirements sheet which you'll have to review and sign stating that you can perform all mental and physical aspects of the job. As long as you can perform those tasks, you should be fine. I would suggest not bringing up your disease unless asked since its really none of their business as long as you can do the job. Good luck

You are only limited by your own capabilities. You have heard of those inspirational stories where people who are handicapped or disadvantaged end up doing miraculous things with their life. As long as you are capable of performing a job, you have every chance at succeeding in your mission. A great attitude goes a LONG way in the U.S. Good for you for setting goals and pursuing them, dont let anyone tell you that you "can't"
