why does my cat suddenly like to spray his urine out doors?we just moved to a new apartment community... my cat insists on holding his pee and poop in until i get him outside in his halter and leash for walkies - then he sprays... sprays... sprays... on plants, parked cars, lamp posts... can it be he is just marking territory since there are a lot of residents who walk their dogs here... OR please, can it be a sign of something more sinister like kidney disease?

my cat is neutered but he is a dominant kind of fella
and he hasn't 'missed' his box so far...
when i am too busy to let him out, i just plnk him in his litter box and he does his business (if he can't wait - hee hee)

sounds like he is marking his territoy. arent you glad Men dont do that? well. most of us don't. youshould take him to the vet if you are worried about health problems.

Marking his new territory - there could be other male cats aroung who have sprayed, or if he's not desexed then there could be a female cat around.
Be thankful - I once had a cat who liked to spray on my legs to mark me as his territory!!! Thankfully, the day he got desexed he stopped spraying and never sprayed again, or his next trip may have been to a new home.
