How do the kidneys affect blood pressure?


How do the kidneys affect blood pressure?I hear the people with kidney disease can get high blood pressure. How is this? Is it because of the renin hormone that regulates blood pressure gets affected causing hypertension?? :S

Usually it is the other way. Blood pressure increase the likelihood of kidney damage.
