Has Anyone with mild chronic kidney disease recovered or at least halted the progression of the disease?By mild renal damage I mean a GFR of 85 in a female (38 years old, creatinine 0.8, BUN 14) I'm very worried and anguished and I would like to know if there's hope for me to at least stop the progression of the illness.

I had kidney disease for 15 years before I actually had to go on dialysis. My doctor was extremely surprised; he expected me to need dialysis within 1 year of diagnosis.
My kidney disease was caused by Type 1 diabetes. I can't say exactly what the "magic trick" was, if any. I was very careful about my blood pressure. I always took my blood pressure medicine, which was an ACE inhibitor that is supposed to slow progression of kidney disease also. I kept my weight in a normal range. I did not overindulge in sodium (by that, I meant I tried to avoid or limit the processed foods that contain excessive sodium, like hot dogs and soups). The sodium you get from table salt is very small compared to everything that's processed. So, I read lots of labels. I Ialso exercised and I did all the labs that my dr. requested.
I cannot guarantee this will work for anyone else, but it definitely worked for me.
I ended up getting a kidney and pancreas transplant Your creatinine is great, fyi. Mine's a 1.1. post transplant on most of my labs.

For now there is no cure for kidney disease. When I went in for my kidney transplant I was recommended for a clinical trial for a type of transplant that might be. The way it works I think is you start taking kemo before the transplant. Then you get bone marrow from the donor. This makes a chimeric immune system so your body doesn't reject the kidney. This treatment is still in trials but your creatinine is pretty low, you probably don't have to worry about kidney failure yet.

There are no guarantees no matter what you do or don't do. However, it's best to follow your nephs recommendations.

You'd have to first talk with your doctor on this and then read up and try to prevent whatever problem you're experiencing. Some body internal organs can be made better if you stop what's been hurting them. For instance a person could stop cigarettes, could change their diet, could lose weight to get off medications. Get a blood test then look at the paperwork the doctor gives you and see what's going wrong.
