Chronic heart failure can lead to a back flow of blood from the heart. This increases peripheral blood pressure and causes swelling. Since the capillaries in the kidneys are incredibly sensitive and small, when there is increased pressure they're at a high risk of rupturing. Thus- CHF causes Hypertension, which causes renal failure.

CHF can result in decreased cardiac output, meaning decreased blood flow to other organs. Kidney function is affected when it receives less blood flow, this is known as prerenal renal failure.
Look up prerenal renal failure, one of the causes will be cardiac dysfunction.
