Put 6 yr old Persian cat down, are symptoms common with kidney disease or could this be passed 2 other cats?Symptoms:
Slept in closet for one to two days.
Doesn't usually speak but cried repeatedly today.
Could not hold him self up to take a drink of water.
Dehydrated
Pale color
Brown tongue with bad odor
Recently treated this and other cats for flea infestation.
Worried about other cats, I know Persians sometimes can suffer from Kidney failure and that there is no recovery for this. Worried that it might be from flea infestation and other cats that do not show symptoms may soon become ill. Please help!

Kidney failure is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test. Mild kidney problems can be helped with IV fluids. However, there are other things it could be; poisening, liver problems, obstructions, probably many more too. Please take him to the vet asap. In the meantime, try to get some liquids into him. Water, no salt broth, pedialyte are a few good options.

Another disease you might look into is Feline Panleukopenia, also called Feline Distemper.
Symptons of it are:
Depression
Loss of Appetite
High Fever
Lethargy
Vomiting
Severe Diarrhea
Dehydration or Hanging over the water dish.
Normally the sickness may go on for 3-4 days after the first elevation of body temperature. Fever will fluctuate furing the illness in some cats and abruptly fall to subnormal levels shortly before death.

Six year of age is very young for a cat to have kidney failure to the extreme that euthanasia would be necessary. Is that what happened?
How did you treat the "flea infestation"? Those chemicals could have compromised all your cats.
Kidney disease is not a contagious disease and your other cats could not "catch" it. A blockage of the urinary tract can kill a cat within 48 hours if he cannot urinate.

Kidney Failure can't be passed on from cat to cat, but I would reccommend having the other cats tested for feline lekeumia which is catchable within cats or other tests that a vet might reccomend.
