Pablove Across America 2010 Day 18 Morning Dedication: Pearl Avery Holland & Josiah Zapata

Pearl Avery Hollan made her first trip to St. Louis Children's Hospital by air ambulance in 2009. She was suffering from congestive heart failure and diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. In October 2009, an ultrasound showed several cysts inside her kidneys. She was originally diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease, but later it was determined that she actually had bilateral Wilms tumor and Denys Drash syndrome. On February 1st, 2010 surgeons removed her right kidney, 1/3 of her left kidney, and a portion of her liver. Pearl has finished her chemotherapy but her remaining kidney is having trouble keeping up. She will be eligible for kidney replacement once she has been off chemotherapy for two years. Josiah Zapata -- Josiah is living it up as an active 4 year old in Nashville. He was 2 ½ years old when he was diagnosed with stage IV Wilms tumor with metastasis to both lungs and his renal artery. Josiah still has some cysts in his lungs that doctors are keeping an eye on, but his last scans at the end of August were clear of disease. He gets a new scan on Oct. 27th. Josiah amazed his family early this year when he learned to read with his big brother.
