My 24 year old cat has stage one kidney disease, what does this mean?My family cat who lives with my parents was just diagnosed with stage one kidney disease, and a bladder infection!
Poor guy.
The bladder infection seems kinda simple, but I don't know much about kidney disease!!
How long can a cat live with stage one kidney disease?
What are some major things we can do to increase his life span?
Nope 24 is correct, he is a blue point Siamese, he only has one tooth, but he is still going strong, I am glad we get regular blood work done so this was detected early.

wow that is awsome that your cat is 24 years old.

This is something you need to discuss with your vet. I don't think there's a way to determine how long he will live at this stage, presumably it will progress but at his age, you never know how long that will take. It's a wait and see situation.

The kidney disease is probably kidney cancer. Stage one means that only kidney is affected and that it is hope if kidney is removed.
Dunno if this is done for cats.
The problem is your cat is quite old... There are cats that live till 30 years, but it is not regular.

You are kidding us, right?
I've never heard of a cat living that long.
Do you really mean 14 years old?
Anyway: a disease means that cat is ill. He will probably be ok for a while, and then suddenly progress rapidly and pass away. I know that sounds mean, but that cat has lived a very very long life and now its systems are starting to break down. There is probably nothing you can do for him. Except love him, and let him live on in his cat way that he has been doing for ever.
Try and make his bed comfortable and keep it clean...that way when he is not able to do a lot of activity, he can be happiest in his bed.

That's actually pretty good for a cat that age-stage one is mild and often doesn't have any symptoms http://www.catthyroid.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=ProfessionalCenter
many cats in their teens have stage one kidney disease but it isn't detected until it reaches stage two.A good quality diet of wet food and a stress free environment are two things you can do for your cat-fluid therapy would be something to look at when it reaches stage two but that could happen soon or take years, there's no way of predicting how it will progress. Our cat lived 6 years with stage two kidney disease with a good quality of life but all cats are different.
