My 12 yr. old Yorkie has been diagnosed with Kidney Disease. They say he only has about 25% kidney function.?So far he's lost some weight but is responding well to a new dog food. He still has plenty of energy.
The vet was reluctant to say how long he would live. Anyone else experienced this illness?

my mom had a chiwawa that had kidney problems, and the outcome,well, was not good :(. but you never know!

it really depends. depending on how he is reacting to his new diet and his blood values. make sure to get this rechecked fairly often or if you notice any change in his behavior. Also, did your vet put him on a fluid regime? If not, ask them about subcutaneous fluids that you can give at home.

Yes I have.
One of my poms, got pancreatitis... lost ALL renal function.
dogs do not survive it.
However I got in a naturapath/dog guy who worked real wonders.
We had to do a complete change in diet, we also had to feed him by syringe every hour,. it wasnt fun doing that for 3 weeks i tells ya!
end result is the dog that the vet sent home to die is fit, healty and is a great dog again.
I rang the vet and he demanded I take him in, to prove he hadnt died. He said to me that dogs do not survive.... we were not jsut lucky, we took matters into our own hands and thought NO our boy isnt going to die!
