Low Level Kidney Disease and High Protein Diets?I have a low level kidney disease - it hasn't been serious enough to do a biopsy on so I don't know what the condition is.. I have had protein/blood in urine, although not large amounts, and there may have been some decrease in my kidney function over the span of the last 2-3 years (very little, MAYBE 1% or so, I'm 32).. the doctor I was seeing said it might be IGA nephropathy, but for all I know I have had this low level condition all my life without a problem (I can remember urinating a little bit of blood when I was 6).. The problem with all of this is that I lift weights and its kind of hard not to hit the shakes to get the protein I need.. I don't even know if I have a hardcore kidney disease that requires me not to take protein?

I would ask my doctor more questions or better yet go to a Kidney specialist. In 1992 my husband started having some UTI's and went to the doc. He was told that he had early stages of kidney disease. He did Nothing about it-blew it off. In 2000 he went into Kidney failure and this resulted in several operations on one kidney (the other kidney had died). In 2000 he was in full kidney failure and has now been on Full Kidney Dialysis. He goes every other day for 4 hrs. We can not travel or go hunting or fishing due to the fact he MUST have dialysis atleast every 3-4 days or he will die. At this point and time diet in his life is vital. I encourage you if you have been cautioned at all that you even MIGHT have a kidney issue to go to the best doctor and follow directions. My husband is considered to be in end stages Renal Failure and does not have long to live, please take care of yourself God Bless Reggie
