Kidney Disease: what are my chances of having kidney disease?

what are my chances of having kidney disease?I have type 1 diabetes for 20 years, with a history of hyperglycemias (400s and 500s),
history of UTIs as a child and even in the past 4 years a few bladder infections,
past 2 years with other microvascular problems (advanced retinopathy),
high blood pressure about 2 years ago (nearly on-going for a year) but not currently.

Just because I have (had) these risk factors, could there still be a good chance that I have NO kidney damage? Or am I most likely soon, if not now, to expect a diagnosis of kidney malfunction? I've been very obsessed with this idea lately, and am doind everything I can to prevent it. (My blood test results should be revealed this week, so that should indicate whether or not, though I do want to hear what other people think)

Since you have had microvascular changes in your retina then there is a good chance similar changes are occurring throughout your body not just in your kidney. I would wait since only your blood tests are going to be factual.

With blood sugars in the 400 - 500 range for many years and high blood pressure, you are a prime candidate for renal failure. You may not have it now, but everytime your blood glucose is that high it is spilling over into your kidneys and is causing damage.

My husband went for years with your same problem of high glucose numbers and high blood pressure and now he has 3rd stage renal failure, with 5th stage being complete renal failure.

Everyone is different. You might escape renal failure, but you will be very lucky if you do.

Please take care of yourself. Lay off the salt and eat a low fat healthy diet. Your health depends on it.

Good luck and have a blessed day!
