I'm pregnant and I'm trying to figure out if I have kidney disease. I don't have insurance right now...?(I'm working on getting insurance) otherwise I would just go to the doctor. So I was looking up the symptoms of kidney disease, and many of them seem to be things that are also associated with pregnancy. I have experienced many of them, but I thought it was just because I was pregnant. So out of the following list of kidney disease symptoms, are any NOT common during pregnancy also?
* changes in urination habits - having to go but nothing is there
* urine looks different - blood in urine
* swelling in ankles/feet
* sleeping habits change
* dizziness/lack of concentration
* nausea
* food tastes different
* always out of breath, even without exercise
* pain in back or side

I have all those "symptoms"....Most of them are common in pregnancy. Ive been out of breathe for months. Sometimes my urine is darker or lighter at times, however have NEVER had blood in it. I have insomnia some nights. I get dizzy once and awhile...Well pain in the side, No but the back yes...

Blood in the urine is not a pregnancy symptom. It usually means you have a urinary tract infection.

Have you thought about going to a minute clinic? They usually are pretty reasonable for a bladder infection test.

All except the blood in urine are pregnancy symptoms. It may just be a UTI, treatable with just 3 days of cipro (costs less than 10$ ). I hope you can get to a doctor and get a prescription. how about medicaid? If untreated, it may get to your kidneys.

Hi Joy!
Just as the other posters have said- the blood in the urine is the only red flag item. At one point or another I experienced everything but the blood in the urine during my pregnancy.
Do you happen to have cash for a "doc in the box?" If not is there a county or state clinic you can go to? How about any free clinics? Can your church help?
God bless you and protect you (and your little peanut!). :)

From Cambridge - According to research in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, eating fish may help prevent kidney disease in diabetics. In a study of 22000 adults, 517 of whom had diabetes, researchers found that those with diabetes who ate fish more than once per week were less likely to have protein in the urine - an early sign of kidney disease. Overall, 18% of those who ate fish less than once per week had these early signs of kidney disease, compared to just 4% of those who ate fish at least twice per week. From Washington - The FDA has approved bendamustine hydrochloride, sold under the trade name Treanda, for the treatment of lymphoma. The approval comes after a trial was conducted on 100 indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients, which resulted in a 74% response rate to treatment. Patient response and progression-free survival both lasted an average of about 9 months. The drug had previously been approved for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia And finally, from the UK - According to research in the British Medical Journal, even small amounts of caffeine can increase the risk of delivering a low birth weight baby. In a study of over 2600 pregnant women, researchers found that those who drank 1 to 2 cups of coffee per day had a 20% increased risk of having a low birth weight baby. Those who drank the equivalent of 2 to 3 cups of coffee per day had a 50% increased risk. For Insidermedicine in 60, Dr. Susan Sharma.
