PID can be caused from other things also. Read on:
PID occurs when bacteria move upward from a woman's vagina or cervix (opening to the uterus) into her reproductive organs. Many different organisms can cause PID, but many cases are associated with gonorrhea and chlamydia, two very common bacterial STDs. A prior episode of PID increases the risk of another episode because the reproductive organs may be damaged during the initial bout of infection.
Sexually active women in their childbearing years are most at risk, and those under age 25 are more likely to develop PID than those older than 25. This is because the cervix of teenage girls and young women is not fully matured, increasing their susceptibilty to the STDs that are linked to PID.
The more sex partners a woman has, the greater her risk of developing PID. Also, a woman whose partner has more than one sex partner is at greater risk of developing PID, because of the potential for more exposure to infectious agents.
Women who douche may have a higher risk of developing PID compared with women who do not douche. Research has shown that douching changes the vaginal flora (organisms that live in the vagina) in harmful ways, and can force bacteria into the upper reproductive organs from the vagina.
Women who have an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted may have a slightly increased risk of PID near the time of insertion compared with women using other contraceptives or no contraceptive at all. However, this risk is greatly reduced if a woman is tested and, if necessary, treated for STDs before an IUD is inserted.

PID IS an STD...so someone is lying...either you or him...you can't get STD's from surgery, UTI's, colitis or kidney infections.
You can only get sexually transmitted diseases from having sex with someone who already has the disease...
(thats why they're called STD'S...) so I'd be looking at the boyfriend if YOU aren't lying....

You may have had it for a long time. What pelvic inflammatory disease means is that the STD hung around your vagina. Overtime, left untreated, it moved on up into your fallopian tubes, so was no longer in your vagina for it to be transmittable. Lots of STD's (if not most) have no symptoms...until they cause more serious probs like pelvic inflammatory disease.
Not sure if your doc told you, but you can get laproscopic surgery to get rid of it. Kind of an invasive thing. Sometimes it only requires meds though. I hear it can be pretty painful. After you get rid of it, you should be fine and can start anew!!! Good luck!! Perhaps your doc can give you something for the pain and any other symptoms you might be experiencing until you get treatment or with treatment??

The majority of pelvic inflammatory disease cases are caused by the same bacteria that lead to sexually transmitted diseases (such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma, staph, strep). (MedlinePlus)
Pelvic inflammatory disease is infection of the upper female genital tract: the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries; abscesses may occur. Common symptoms and signs include lower abdominal pain, cervical discharge, and irregular vaginal bleeding. Long-term complications include infertility, chronic pelvic pain, and ectopic pregnancy. Diagnosis is clinical and by PCR of cervical specimens for Neisseria gonorrhoeae and chlamydiae; a saline wet mount; and occasionally, ultrasonography or laparoscopy. Treatment is with antibiotics. (Merck)
Please see the web pages for more details on Pelvic inflammatory disease and Chlamydia.

PID can also be caused by Bacterial Vaginosis if it's left untreated which is not an STD. I would think that if you didn't have a DNC and didn't let them check to make sure all the tissue is out that could cause the infection as well.
