I really hope your husband is under the care of a very good nephrologist. He must be on meds. Some antihypertensive meds are very beneficial for your kidney's and in preserving kidney function. Your blood pressure increases because your kidneys are trying to force more blood supply to them. Also with decreased kidney function, you will get a build up of toxins and your creatine and BUN will increase. What type of diet has his doctor put him on and has it been reviewed for lack of effectiveness?

When the kidneys are not working well, wastes can build to high levels in the blood, causing symptoms such as swelling of the hands and feet, nausea and vomiting, fatigue and poor appetite.
Complications may develop such as high blood pressure, anemia, weak bones, poor nutritional health, growth failure and nerve damage. Kidney disease also increases the chance of developing heart and blood vessel disease. These problems may happen slowly over a long period of time, often without symptoms. CKD may eventually lead to kidney failure and require dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.
Chronic renal failure is a slow, progressive decline of kidney function. It's usually a result of a complication from another serious medical condition. Unlike acute renal failure, which happens quickly and suddenly, chronic failure happens gradually - over a period of years - as the kidneys slowly stop working. The progression is so slow that symptoms usually don't appear until a major part of the damage is done.
It's entirely possible to live a full, healthy life with only one kidney - one fully functioning kidney can do the work of two - but it's essential to watch for signs of any problems with the remaining kidney. When kidneys get to the point where they can't function at all, kidney dialysis or a transplant is the only way to remove the body's waste products.
Take care as always
