My sister's 15 year old cat was diagnosed with CRF this year. I think we had one when I was really little that died from that too. All of our other cats over the years and right now (10 or so between me, my sis, and my mom) have been fine.

It is very common for cats, much less common for dogs.

My cat had it, partly as a result from hyperthyroid complications. She was dying of it when we took her to the vets to put her to sleep when she had a heart attack in my arms (heart damage also due to hyperthyroidism). And that's only part of it!

My first cat and my two tuxedos succumbed to kidney failure. The first had total kidney shutdown at age 19 and the tuxedos developed diabetes at age 6. I am now on numbers 8 and 9.
