How important is it to test my Himalayan kitten for PKD?

How important is it to test my Himalayan kitten for PKD?I am buying a Himalayan kitten in the near future and my breeder offers a PKD certificate for $ 100 extra on top of the price of the kitten. Is that a good deal? Would it be a big risk to not get the test done?

No - a reputable breeder will test their breeding cats for PKD BEFORE they are bred - not test the kittens and charge $ 100 more. Find another breeder.

A reputable breeder will have tested all cats in their breeding program, will be able to certify the PKD status of the kittens as the parents will be free of this genetic defect. This is a bad sign that you are *not* dealing with a reputable breeder. If she feels compelled to test the kittens, it should be at her expense not yours. That is sending up a signal that she has PKD in her lines, and is breeding the cats anyway. Personally, I wouldn't buy a kitten from this breeder.
